The rules for using Truce. We have tried to write them in language you can actually read - they are still a contract, so they matter.

1. The agreement
These terms are between you and Liam Green, who builds and runs Truce (“Truce”, “we”, “us”). Truce is in the process of being incorporated as a company in England and Wales; when that completes, this page will name the company and the agreement will be with it.
By creating an account or using the app or this website, you agree to these terms. If you do not, do not use Truce.
Our privacy policy forms part of this agreement and explains what we do with personal data.
2. Who can use Truce
You must be at least 16 years old. Truce is not designed for children and we do not knowingly provide it to anyone younger. If we find out an account belongs to someone under 16, we will close it.
You must also be able to enter a contract where you live, and not be barred from using the service under any applicable law. If you are under the age of majority where you live (18 in most US states), you need a parent or guardian's permission to use Truce, and they agree to these terms on your behalf.
Truce is available in the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia and New Zealand. Europe is next, and the App Store will not list the app in EU countries until we get there.
3. Your account
- Give accurate information when you sign up, and keep it current.
- Your account is yours. Do not share your login, and do not let someone else use it.
- You are responsible for what happens under your account. Turn on two-factor authentication if you want a stronger guarantee of that.
- Tell us at once if you think someone else has access: support@truceapp.com.
- Usernames can be changed once every 30 days. We may reclaim a username that impersonates someone, infringes a trademark, or is offensive.
4. What Truce is, and is not
Truce helps a group decide, plan and split the cost of a trip. It shows activities and places from third-party sources, records what your group votes for, and keeps a ledger of who paid what.
Truce is not a travel agent and does not sell travel. We do not book anything, take payment for anything, hold your money, or act as a party to any booking. When you book, your contract is with that provider - the airline, the hotel, the activity operator - and their terms apply, not ours.
The ledger is a record, not a payment system. It calculates who owes whom. It does not move money. Settling up happens between you, using whatever method you choose, and any dispute about it is between you and the person concerned.
Prices, availability, opening hours and place details come from third parties and can be wrong or out of date. Check anything that matters before you rely on it.
5. Your content
You keep ownership of everything you put into Truce - photos, vote notes, documents, trip details, all of it. We claim no ownership of it.
To run the service, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce and display your content, strictly for the purpose of providing Truce to you and to the members of the trips you put it in. That licence ends when you delete the content or your account, apart from what we must keep as described in section 8 and in the privacy policy.
You confirm that you have the right to upload what you upload, and that doing so does not infringe anyone else's rights. That includes photographs of other people - see the privacy policy.
6. Acceptable use
Do not use Truce to:
- Post anything unlawful, hateful, harassing, threatening, defamatory, sexually explicit, that depicts or exploits a child, or that promotes terrorism or violent extremism.
- Impersonate anyone, or misrepresent who you are.
- Upload someone else's personal information, or photographs of them, without a reasonable basis for doing so.
- Infringe copyright, trademarks or any other right.
- Harass, bully or repeatedly contact someone who does not want to hear from you.
- Attack the service: scraping, automated access, circumventing rate limits, probing for vulnerabilities, or interfering with anyone else's use of it.
- Resell, sublicense or commercially exploit the service without our consent.
Found a security vulnerability? Tell us at privacy@truceapp.com before disclosing it. We will not pursue anyone who reports in good faith and gives us a reasonable chance to fix it.
7. Reports, removal and bans
Anyone can report content or a person from inside the app, or by email. We review every report and aim to act within 24 hours.
Reporting is private. The person who posted the content is never told who reported it. If we remove something, we tell the person who reported it that it was dealt with, and we tell whoever posted it that it was removed and why.
We may remove content, remove someone from a trip, suspend an account or close it, where we reasonably believe these terms have been broken. Serious cases - anything illegal, sexual content involving minors, or a threat to someone's safety - result in an immediate permanent ban without warning, and may be reported to the police or the relevant authority.
Otherwise, upheld reports accumulate as strikes against the account that posted the content. A strike counts for 12 months and then expires. Reports we look at and reject do not count - you cannot get someone struck by reporting them repeatedly.
- First strike - the content is removed and you get a warning.
- Second strike - the account is suspended for 7 days.
- Third strike - the account is suspended for 30 days.
- Fourth strike - the account is permanently suspended.
A suspended account cannot sign in, and is signed out of any device it is already signed in on. Signing in shows how long the suspension lasts. Your trips, expenses and photos are not deleted while you are suspended, and your share of any group ledger stays exactly as it was - a suspension does not cancel money you owe or are owed. If you believe a decision was wrong, reply to the notification or email support@truceapp.com and a person will look at it again.
When content is removed we take the smallest action that fixes it. A note is deleted but the vote it was attached to is kept, so a group's decision is not changed by moderation; an expense or plan entry is emptied rather than deleted, so nobody's ledger silently changes.
Blocking someone stops them inviting you to anything. It does not remove their existing entries from a trip you are both in, because doing so would corrupt the shared ledger for everyone else; if you no longer want to be in a trip with someone, leave it.
Being removed from a trip prevents you rejoining it, including through an old share link, unless an organiser invites you again.
Copyright complaints
If you believe something on Truce infringes your copyright, send a notice to our designated copyright agent at support@truceapp.com, with “Copyright” in the subject line. Under the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act, the notice must include:
- your physical or electronic signature;
- the copyrighted work you say is infringed;
- the material you say infringes it, with enough detail for us to find it, such as the trip and the photo or document;
- your name, postal address, telephone number and email address;
- a statement that you believe in good faith the use is not authorised by the owner, its agent or the law; and
- a statement, under penalty of perjury, that the notice is accurate and that you are the owner or authorised to act for them.
If we remove something you posted because of a notice and you believe that was a mistake, you can send us a counter-notice with your signature, the material removed and where it was, a statement under penalty of perjury that you believe in good faith it was removed by mistake or misidentification, your name, address and telephone number, and your consent to the jurisdiction of the US federal courts (for an address outside the US, any judicial district in which we may be found) and to accept service from the person who sent the notice. We may then restore it after 10 to 14 business days unless they tell us they have gone to court.
We close the accounts of people who repeatedly infringe copyright. Sending a notice you know to be false can make you liable for damages.
8. Trips, organisers and shared records
Whoever creates a trip is its organiser, and can invite and remove members, set voting rules, promote co-organisers, hand over ownership, or delete the trip entirely. Deleting a trip deletes it for everyone in it.
Truce is collaborative by design, so the group's record does not belong to any one member. If you delete your account, your identity is removed but the group's record is not destroyed - a booking you paid for still shows as paid, attributed to a former member. This protects the other members, who are equally entitled to an accurate record of their own trip. The detail is in the privacy policy.
If you are the only organiser of a trip that still has other members, you will need to hand it over before you can delete your account.
9. Payments and subscriptions
- The core service is free. Discovering options, voting, the plan and the ledger cost nothing, for every member.
- Purchases go through Apple. All payments are handled by the App Store under Apple's terms. We never see your card details.
- A Pro trip is a one-off purchase that unlocks Pro features on that trip for everyone in it, for as long as the trip exists.
- Plus and Pro subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled, at the price and for the billing period shown before you confirm. Cancel any time from your Apple ID subscription settings; cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you have paid for.
- Free trials become paid subscriptions. Where a subscription starts with a free trial, it turns into a paid subscription at the price shown when you started it unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends. There is one free trial per person, across Plus and Pro.
- Refunds are handled by Apple under their policy. We cannot issue them directly, but tell us if something went wrong and we will help where we can.
- We may change prices. A change never affects something you have already bought, and we will give notice before a subscription renews at a new price.
10. Third-party services
Truce shows content from and links to third parties, including Viator, Google Places, Mapbox, Skyscanner, Booking.com, Airalo and Heymondo. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content, availability, pricing or terms.
Some of those links are affiliate links, meaning we may earn a commission if you book through them, at no extra cost to you. This never influences what your group is shown or what wins a vote.
11. Availability and changes
We aim to keep Truce running but do not guarantee it will be uninterrupted or error-free. We may add, change or remove features, and may suspend the service for maintenance. Where a change materially reduces what you have paid for, we will tell you.
12. Ending the agreement
You can stop at any time by deleting your account in Settings. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, or where we are required to by law. If we close your account without cause, we will refund any unused portion of a subscription you have paid for.
13. Disclaimers
Truce is provided “as is”. To the extent the law allows, we exclude all implied warranties. We do not warrant that third-party information - prices, opening times, availability, travel details - is accurate or current.
IF YOU LIVE IN THE UNITED STATES: TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, TRUCE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE”, AND WE DISCLAIM ALL IMPLIED WARRANTIES, INCLUDING THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. Some states do not allow implied warranties to be excluded, so this may not all apply to you.
If you live in Australia: our services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies those guarantees or your rights under them.
If you live in New Zealand: nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or the Fair Trading Act 1986.
Nothing here excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded. If you are a consumer, you keep all your statutory rights.
14. Liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost profits, lost data, or losses arising from a booking made with a third party, from a payment between members, or from a decision your group reached using Truce.
Where we are liable, our total liability is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or £100 (US$100, A$100 or NZ$100 if you live in the United States, Australia or New Zealand).
Some US states do not allow incidental or consequential damages to be excluded or limited, so parts of this section may not apply to you. In Australia and New Zealand, this section does not limit our liability for failing to meet a consumer guarantee.
15. Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and its courts have exclusive jurisdiction. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere, you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of your own country and may bring proceedings there.
If you live in the United States, that includes the consumer protection laws of your state, and you can always bring a claim that qualifies in the small claims court for where you live. In Australia it includes the Australian Consumer Law, and in New Zealand the Consumer Guarantees Act and the Fair Trading Act.
If any part of these terms is unenforceable, the rest stays in force. We may update these terms; the date at the top changes and, where a change is material, we will tell you in the app or by email.
