An adventure trip the whole group can keep up with.

Truce is a group trip planner for iPhone. The group sets the pace in an anonymous poll, votes on every activity, packs from one shared list and splits each cost as it’s booked. Below is one trip to Slovenia’s Soča valley, planned start to finish in the app.

  1. The dates

    Thu 10 – Mon 14 June

    Dates poll3 options6 of 6 free

Five days means six lots of annual leave lining up. Sam proposed three windows, one worked for everybody, and confirming it unlocked the plan.

    Dates poll

  2. How hard

One big day, then easier ones

Anonymous poll3 of 6 said “proper”

Nobody wants to be the one who admits the big climb is beyond them. Asked anonymously, the group landed on one hard day, and every activity vote after it started from there.

  3. The kit

    One list, everyone packs it

Packing listBoots: 5 of 6 packed

It’s a list each person packs for themselves, not a list of who brings what: an item only crosses off once all six have it. Tap one to see who hasn’t.

  4. The maps

Saved for when there’s no signal

Offline · Pro tripPlan, maps and travel times

You can’t count on signal in the mountains. On a Pro trip each phone can download the plan and every day’s map, walking and driving times included, so the trip still works with no bars.

One seven-seater or two small cars went to a poll. One car won four votes to two, so Sam booked it, and the hire went on the ledger split six ways.

A vote can carry a line saying why, and anyone can reply to it. Nat’s reason was that the pizzeria is a walk from the chalet, and after a flight and a two-hour drive that settled it.

  1. The bill

    £2,430 · £405 a head

Sam, Nat and Jordan fronted itSquared in 12 payments

Sam, Jordan and Nat fronted the costs. Balances net pair by pair, so everyone settles once with each person they owe rather than once per dinner, and the totals move on every phone as it happens.

  2. The recap

When the trip ends, everyone gets a recap: what won, where the money went, the route between your stops, and who nominated the most.

Before you go

Adventure trips go wrong in their own places: mismatched pace, patchy signal, and kit nobody packed. This is how Truce handles them.

Does it work without signal?

The plan and the maps do, on a Pro trip: anyone can download them before you lose signal, walking and driving times included. Voting, booking and settling up still need a connection.

Can it show how far apart things are?

Every day’s stops sit on a map in order. Any trip shows the straight-line distance between them; a Pro trip shows real walking and driving routes and times.

How do we handle different fitness levels?

Ask in an anonymous group poll before you plan anything. Nobody sees who picked what, so the honest answer comes out, and the activity votes start from it.

Can we split up the shared kit, like one stove between us?

Not on the packing list. It’s one list that everyone packs for themselves: an item only crosses off once all of you have it, which is right for boots and passports. For shared kit, run a quick group poll: who’s bringing the stove?

What about flights, cars and somewhere to stay?

Flights and stays go on the plan as their own rows, and a photo of a boarding pass fills a flight in. Truce links out to flight, hotel and car hire searches; you book those with the provider.

Does everyone need the app?

Everyone who votes, or wants the plan on their phone, does. For now Truce is iPhone only and in open beta. You invite people by username or send them a link.

What does it cost?

Planning is free for the whole group. A Pro trip adds offline maps, real travel times and the document vault for your insurance, for one payment of £9.99 $9.99 A$14.99 NZ$19.99 that covers everyone.

Let the group set the pace.

Truce is in open beta on iOS. Start the trip, invite everyone going, and plan it together.
